Don't ask my why, but the kabelfoon modem returns a "no
carrier" when a connection has been established. Just remove: ABORT
'NO CARRIER' from /etc/chatscripts/provider and it will work fine with
ppp.
Good luck,

Hello,
I have got a debian potato firewall / mailserver running
that address without
problems.
I have connected my modem to a windoze box directly and it worked without
problems.
Can anybody tell what could be wrong here please? I have not changed a
thing on my debian box before it stopped working correctly.
TIA,

I added pppd-options to /etc/diald/diald.options and it works!

Hi,
I have a problem with diald. Diald connects and then disconnects with the
message:
peer refused to authenticate
It does work when I remove "auth" from the /etc/ppp/options file, but the man
pages say that I should not do this.
Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?
TIA,

Hi,
This is probably a very stupid question, but I haven't been able to find the
answer to it myself. In DOS it was very easy to check the amount of free disk
space, just type dir and the amount of free disk space is shown at the bottom
of the list. Now I have installed Debian on a 850 MB disk

I found O'Reilly's book: Running Linux, written by Matt Welsh and Lar Kaufman a
very useful book. It is not a specail debian book. It is about Linux in

Hi,
Since I installed X on my slink dist, xdm starts automaticly when I boot my

to quit X (ie to rebuild the kernel).
My question is:
How do I kill xdm, or prevent xdm from starting at boot-time (so I can start X

Thanks, I have got it working now.
Thanks for your reply Robert. However, I did use the netscape4 installer.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I have changed from using fetchmail/elm to using fetchmail/mutt, but now can

When I start Mutt, it goes to the /var/spool/mail/username box. Mutt claims
this box is empty. When I change to ~/Mail/inbox, mutt also can not find any

I have configured Exim. Only one thing does not work the way I want it to.
When I send a message, my local username is filled in in the From: line instead

Which setting do I have to change?
Thanks,
