i am happy to tell you that ximian has ad-APT-ed their ftp server to make
the mirrors apt-gettable! (a few weeks ago this wasn't the case.)
So for example the following is now possible in /etc/apt/sources.list:
#deb http://red-carpet.ximian.com/debian stable main
deb ftp://ftp-stud.fht-essli
