Hello
I'm hoping you can help me with this.
I installed Wheezy a couple of days ago. Everything went fine. No glitches.
Sound, wifi, mail, ssh, X -- all good.
i kept the machine running for continuously while getting everything in place.

Hi List
After 6 months of preoccupation with another project, I decided to do
a dist-upgrade when a couple of packages started showing signs of their age.
All worked fine. It's nice to be up to date.

This may be it. Wish I could get to the BIOS without shutting down!
Thanks for the thought.

Hello,
I've got the new Epson Color Stylus C83 printing OK with CUPS via the
router.
Everything available with CUPS admininstration seems to be working fine.
However, I want to check the ink level, and for this I need to use a command
line tool, escputil.
The output for

I don't know if this is any use to you Antonio, but I've got an
anglo-portuguese 104 keyboard at http://tandv.ws/font .
Put it in /etc/X11/xkb/symbols as pt1 or wh

Hi
Talk about living on the bleeding edge! In order to take advantage of the
latest and greatest, I use unstable packages. For months everything has been
running nicely.
Feeling at one with the world, I did a nice big dist-upgrade on 1st Nov.
Went like a charm. "Hey this is great!" I said. Ten da
Hi Norman,
I've taken my advice from a tutorial by Daniel Robbins, published by
IBM.
He advises enabling the following under network options:

<*> Unix domain sockets

Poul,
I had this with Gimp, and xmms.
Quick fix (so you can use these apps):
Open xmms. ctrl-P brings up preferences. Take note of the fonts listed, they
are the problems ones. Browse to select something that works.
For the Gimp, edit .gimp/gtkrc in your home directory.

Ryan,
Look for the line

I commented this line out to get it working. Since it now works that way,
I haven't looked into the cause of the problem.
Am sending the entire XF86Config file separately.

Stephen,
Thanks for that tip. Any clues on getting an xterm to list files

Marc,
It's handy to learn that there is an atexit bug. Thanks.
My debian mirror hasn't got version 2.2.4 yet. I'll have to look for it
elsewhere I guess.

Thanks Oliver,
libc6 is already the latest version.
It keeps having trouble loading its own libraries as well.

Greetings!
After doing a major update to unstable last week, I find that
Star Office won't start. It can't find shared libraries in its own

So I save my work and schedule and decide to wipeout and reinstall.

Debianites,
Half the attraction of debian is the menu-update system which is activated
by apt-get or relatives.
I've been happily working away and using either WindowMaker Afterstep or E,
mainly WindowMaker. On another machine I installed kde (kdebase_4%3a2.0.1-4)
last December, and had no pr

What on earth could be wrong? Is there something to do with configuring sockets
that I need to know?
Nick Croft.
Aaron,
You can probably play music from a cd with any cd player, you can probably
play a wav file with
play file.wav
but you can't play an .mp3 with xmms. You'll need to recompile a kernel
with your sound card selected.
Have look at the Debian University:

1 Compile sound into a new kernel
2 Get sndconfig and xplaymidi from the woody section of the debian.org.
sndconfig is the same tool that you have on RHL.
Lotsa luck

Glenn,
I also lost my backspace key in the process.
In desperation I rang a friend who logged in to my box and offered advice.
It seems that you need to nudge apt to keep going with installation. It
comes to an end, you start to use your machine and then find some packages

Thanks ferret,
I've got 104 key boards on both machines. The mystery is why the two

I got a slightly better machine at work. 333mz Pentium II. I'v
I have Debian woody on one machine, and in Emacs the Alt key functions as
the Meta-key. That's fine.
I installed potato on another machine (without going through slink). The
alt-key won't function as meta in Emacs on this one. I've used xev to
check. Sure enough alt is there, but not for Emacs.

Debian Users,
I've migrated to potato from rh. I changed for philosophical reasons, and

Some things needed customising. Printing and mail were a little
trouble. Only one more major worry: the size of fonts in Netscape menus,
gnome menus and the panel need to be reduced.
