Talk about living on the bleeding edge! In order to take advantage of the
latest and greatest, I use unstable packages. For months everything has been
running nicely.
Feeling at one with the world, I did a nice big dist-upgrade on 1st Nov.
Went like a charm. "Hey this is great!" I said. Ten days later I needed a
few exciting packages like dpkg-dev, kpkg and friends, and went off to get
the latest.
Remembered that lovely feeling of the smooth dist-upgrade.
Now I've got a cache pregnant with packages that won't install. All being
held up by 14 packages which don't want to work. Each comes with an error
error in control file: `Title' value not specified at /usr/sbin/install-docs
line 633, <IN> line 7.
dpkg: error processing findutils (--configure):
Same goes for
imlib-base vim mutt bzip2 cmt gdk-imlib1 gdk-imlib2 libxml2-dev
libbonobo-activation-dev libgnomevfs2-dev libpng2-dev xzgv vim-gtk
Anything I try to install gets blocked by the same error:
error in control file: `Title' value not specified at /usr/sbin/install-docs
Updating doesn't help. Updating dselect likewise. Manually editing the
selections file, same thing. Tried the toys: synaptic, deity, aptitude.
Tried --force-all-sorts-of-things.
A friend suggested 'intuitively' manually editing files in /var/lib/dpkg.
Any directions, maybe? Usually brokenness gets fixed after a few days.
