Anyways, it works well for me. And if you want both a dvi file and a pdf
file it's a lot faster than running pdflatex and latex separately.

Well, after some more digging and finally looking at the files in
/etc/gdm/Sessions, I found that those sessions want me to put the stuff
in ~/.Xresources. And lo! it works. I think this should be documented
somewhere, e.g., in man gdm.

had it masquerading the dial-up connection with no problems. The
