I installed Netscape 3.01 (not via dpkg) on a mostly Debian 1.1 system,
with a few libraries and fonts from 1.2. When I bring up popups, like
the "open" button, it appears as a thin line on the screen. I have to
resize it to see what it says. Popup error messages appear as a very
small box tha

Could one add a user named "halt" or "shutdown" whose login shell

I'm trying to install a new disk drive and would like to take the
5 disk set I currently have that I used to initially install Debian
and replace the "boot" disk with one with a custom kernel.
I tried a make zdisk, followed by a rdev /dev/fd0 /dev/fd0.
No dice. It booted OK, but after it prompt
If I can assume you don't really want your users to access the raw device,
I think you will find all is well. On my system, when I mount the
device (/dev/mcd) on /cdrom, everyone can read it. I also have the "user"
option in my /etc/fstab which lets anyone mount the cd. This may or

I had a similar problem that included module installation
problems along with the "can not configure /dev/cua0" message.
I solved it by running a depmod -a per helpful instructions
from this group.

I got the same thing when trying to install from the iConnect CD mastered
on Oct 3. So much for dselect. I couldn't get by it and had to
use dpkg to install.

I don't know why I keep trying to use modules, they never work right

I trashed my 1.2.13 system on my home box and installed 2.0.2?. Dselect
didn't work, so I did a manual job with dpkg. I installed the kernel
source and compiled it fine. Did the make modules and make module_install

As some of you might remember I asked if there were any LaTeX problems

mostly all is well, except LaTeX
I'm considering upgrading from my very reliable and perfectly

reassured that LaTeX is working OK. I've seen a number of people
describing problems with LaTeX and almost no answers to them in
the past few weeks. I have an extrem
