This is getting frustrating. I managed to get KDE upgraded to KDE3.1.3
from KDE.org site. Running startx I get the KDE spash screen and the
various initializations, I get the Kandalphs (or whatever) tips
window, but after that no desktop, blank. CTL-ALT-BS still takes me
out. I dont see anything in
Is there a moderately easy way to get KDE upgraded to KDE3? I've tried
pointing sources to the kde.org site, updating and upgrading but that
gives me a few dozen "held back" apps and no KDE3. I tried removing
with purge kde* and art* and then doing an install of kde but that
just gives me a few scr

Is it possible to stop artsd from being loaded? I dont have a sound
card, etc and would like to avoid any possible probs with that
