I've been banging my head for the past six hours trying to figure out
how to write a message in Mutt. (So I've given up and used GMail
instead.)
The problem: how do I write a message in Mutt *without* invoking the
postponed message menu first?
It seems that every time I press "m" for "compose a
There was a time, not too long ago, when my Gnome 2.12.3
desktop was clean. It showed only three icons, Trash,
Computer and Home. Now it's littered with ugly-looking
"Volume" icons representing the partitions of my lone hard
drive. These are partitions that are of no interest to the
typical desktop
Aside from the key combinations in vim and emacs, I've never really
used an input method. But I now have canna and kinput2-canna installed
and nothing seems to happen.
Besides the raw installataion of the two packages and their
dependencies, what else do I need to do (install or configure) to use

I just noticed something weird with my (G)Vim installation
when editing generic config files. The syntax highlighting
colors appear wrong. Could somebody do a test to confirm if
this is really a bug or just a misconfiguration on my end?
To do the test, create two files both named "udev.rules"

I can think of two ways to fix the problem. But I want to know the
Debian Way(tm).
My problem is simple. I have two sound "cards" in my computer. But I
want my onboard sound to be the first sound card recognized by Alsa in
both its /dev/dsp* (OSS emulation) and /dev/snd/pcm* (Alsa proper)

The latest Debian lilypond source package (2.6.3-9) is taking too long
to build. After over a day (24 hours!) the package is still building
on my Sempron 2800+ (64 bit version running as plain i386). This is
already more than twice as long as the time it takes the behemoth

I'm having problems connecting to GMail using the combination of Tor
and Privoxy and a 56K dialup connection. Every so often I would also
get an alert from my browser that GMail could not be found. The only
change I did to the default Debian settings for Tor and Privoxy is the
one mentioned in the
