You do NOT need the scsi emulation with the 2.6.x series
kernels for cdrw or dvd drives. Just another thought,
try adding yourself to the disk (or is it disks) group
once. Also, try su'ing to root and try xine once.. if
the dvd part works, then it's a permissions problem.

off the /etc/init.d/snort script, wiped out the /etc/snort
and /var/log/snort directories this is where I think
I screwed up. (yes, I'm now aware of the "purge" option)

ya for creating a new XF86Config-4 file that will be in
the /etc/X11 directory. I had to tweak mine slightly

Although I love debian, I think getting a printer to work
on this dist sucks. Just take a look at all the bug reports
for lpr, lprng and cups. Note meant as a flame btw, just
a "fix this, improve it *alot*" should be intended.

I've been running Opera 5.0b8 here and it works just fine.
Netscape crashed all the time, even under Windows. Mozilla
is getting close, but still not stable enough for me.

I'd like to install the current StarOffice 5.2 from
sun.com since the version for Potato is old. When

I have recently connected my workstation to an ethernet network. I can ftp
from remote computers to my workstation, but I cannot telnet. I have read
documentation extensively, but cannot seem to find the problem. Any

Yep, it's resolved. I put the line
append="mem=128M"
at the beginning of lilo.conf and then ran lilo. After that, lilo
recognized all the memory.

I have 128 MB of RAM on my computer, but Linux only recognizes up to 64 MB.
I have tried adding "mem=128M" to my lilo config file as recommended in the
HARDWARE HOWTO, but that doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?
