Actually, I just realized that if I comment out the exim line in
inetd.conf the exim daemon will be started in /etx/init.d/exim.

Actually, I got Earthlink/DSL to work with the pppoe distributed with
2.2r3 (potato) and the testing (woody) distributions using the standard
2.2.19pre17 kernel that installed from the CD.
