This thread gave me the clues to fix my problem--my Debian menus were
empty. Instead of having to edit the xterm file, I had to edit doc-linux-html,
going to (approximately) line 420, and removing the extra quotes from the word
"Pocket." Thanks to all, hope this helps somebody else.

Me too, just got a chance to catch up on mail--my setup is Sid, custom kernel
2.4.8 (it happened w/2.4.7 as well), X version 4.1. It's an ATI Rage 128,
Princeton 17" monitor.

At work, most people use WordPerfect 9 for word processing. Of the word
processors and editors I have installed on my Debian system, quite a few are
capable of opening MS Word docs, but none can open WP files--tried wp2x, but
