Using lpr is there anyway to set the size of the font used for printing -
don't care about the type, just the size. I want to reduce the size from 10
to 8 for example (or even make it bigger - oh, the choices I face...)

apt-get install is alot easier, especially when it comes to keeping it up
to date and insync with libraries etc.

You need bin86, which provides as86.
apt-get install bin86

unstable and using kernel-package. I am compiling on a laptop running
aen up-to-date testing distribution of Debian. After unpacking the
source, and running make menuconfig, make dep, make-kpkg clean, I then
run:
