I just compiled and installed (for potato) the emacs 21 prerelaease
sources (21.0.104.2) provided by Takuo Kitame. Previous to this, I was
using emacs 20.7.
I am experiencing some minor problems.
1) Global font lock mode does not work unless I switch it off and switch
it on again. I
I have successfully installed debian 2.2r3 but the onboard intel ethernet
adapter was not recognized.
Anyone know what I need to do to get it recognized and listed as /dev/eth0?

No, you only need the kernel source. Those headers are only useful if
you are compiling modules seperate from the main kernel source.

I've just installed snort package,
and for some reason it sends alerts to me into
/var/log/auth.log . I don't really like alerts going there,
beacuse when I look there I expect to see auth and login information,
not alerts about portscans, etc

Do I have to disable this somehow. I suspect a e2fsck on a reiserfs

CramFS is an FS that lets you execute programs in-place (meaning that
instead of using RAM, it just uses more space on the FS), my old Agenda
VR3 used to use it. It sounds like you may have forgotten to enable
Ext2 or something in your kernel...

As mentioned edit /etc/network/interfaces
then
# /etc/init.d/networking restart
to make the changes take effect.

I've done this with Hewlett Packard A1079C monitors.

it just be any mesa-compliant card? I'm hoping it's the latter, because I

If you're referring to XFree86, you can configure a precise scanrate in
xf86config. However, I do not know about the console .. I don't have any
experience with fixed freq. monitors, but if you can manage to get the
console and X to use that frequency you should be golden.

For desktop PC, set:
/etc/network/interfaces
For note PC (PCMCIA), set:
/etc/pcmcia/network.opts
