I want to put together a daemon to track idletime, the sort of thing
that tells you to get up and stretch every half hour of worktime.
Trouble is, there's no way I can figure out to track "Last keypress in

I had already converted /var/xmcd to group audio after seeing some of
the other suggestions. But I went ahead and installed the new version
since it fixes the directory permissions itself.
The xmcd.deb from slink didn't run xmcdconfig like the one from hamm
did.

Have there been duplicates? I suppose that you first need to move your
mailfile /var/spool/mail/my_account to your $HOME and then start
formail/procmail as procmail appends the mails while cat reads them again

One of the error messages that you supplied said that XF86Config was not
created. When dselect tries to configure xbase, it is trying to create
/etc/X11/XF86Config, and it appears to be failing on your system. So you
don't have an XF86Config file yet. dselect runs some graphical X
configuration

"syslog restart" is not part of the errors. I accidently put that in.
That's from the daily syslog restart. I just cut and pasted the errors
from the top of today's syslog, so that's how I got the "syslog restart"

dpkg --unpack libpam.deb libpam-util.deb
then:
dpkg --configure libpam.deb
dpkg --configure libpam-util

I am having trouble installing Pam with dpkg. It has "circular"
dependencies.
If I try to install libpam0g, it tells me that it needs libpam0g-util
installed and configured first.
If I try to istall libpam0g-util, it tells me that is needs libpam0g
