I wrote a e-mail to gateway2000's tech support team asking them if Linux
was compatible with my Promise Ultra 33 here is an EXACT copy of what was

Thanks for your message. Unfortunatly, Linus has not been tested on any

I have libc4 installed on my Debian system (running the latest from
unstable). How can I find out if any programs depend on libc4, so that I
can remove it if it isn't needed? Or is there a good reason to keep it?
Thanks.

Debian is consistently coming in second in popularity polls for Linux
distributions. It's become very successful as a "hobby system", and somewhat
acceptable among informed business users. I intend to work on Debian

Probably this does not apply to you or it won't solve your problems

getting SCSI timeouts with 2.0.30 and an Adaptec AHA-2940U with two
hard disks and one DAT tape unit. I was unable to make it work but all

Hi,
The ALT key works under emacs when in console mode. But it doesn't work
under X. Is there any reason for this? How can I fix it?
Perhaps I need to use xmodmap? I heard something about a userfriendly
version of this. Does anyone know what it's called?
Thanks,
Mark.

The debian install disk has some of this functionality. It
prompts you when you first put it in about what you want to do. I think
after the kernel is loaded you have to switch to virtual console 2. I
don't rem

Hi,
How can I make a bootable diskette that has a minimal root filesystem on
it (maybe just mount, cp, ps, e2fsck, /etc and probably no networking)??
I know how to make a bootable disk by copying the kernel and using rdev,
however I don't know how I'd place a root filesystem on the diskette.
