I am not able to set up my Linux box as a ppp server (just one ppp
line). It looks like pppd is assigning it's IP address to the client.
The server's IP address is 147.83.61.27, and the clients' should
be 147.83.61.201

I'm just wandering, but is there any way to logout of a Virtual Console
from another Console (i.e. logout of tty1 from tty2)? The reason I ask
this is I managed to hang tty1 and I had to kill all process on tty1 from
tty2 and then rebooted the system. Is there a more elegant way of doing

A weird thing happens to deselect when I run it. It keeps replacing
existing files in my system even though I did not select it. And it keeps
on doing this over and over again. This is the first time this has
happened. Normally is simply skips over files that were already selected,

For the timezone, run /usr/sbin/tzconfig . To set the CMOS clock
/usr/sbin/clock (This may be /usr/sbin/hwclock in newer versions I've
heard.)
If you really want to keep your system time accurate, install the xntp
package. You need a network connection for that though.

you need. File and printer sharing work excellently in both directions.
Telnet works from the Windows machine to Debian, POP mail works (Valerie
uses and old Eudora at home, but I think I've seen it work with Exchange,
too).
How do you change the time zone and clock? I changed the time once (as
root) but the next time i rebooted the time was incorrect again.

I don't think +pap is right. As I understand it, it would demand the isp's
router to authentificate itself via pap.
If you want to, you could use x-isp, an X frontend to p

Actually, it's worse than just what follows the "CONNECT". If the line
quality goes down, most modems will drop speed accordingly. That would
mean an change in speed at the tty "on the fly". That is rather hard to
predict...

I don't know anything about net-acct apart from the fact that it's been
running fine for close to two months on one of my
rc564 seems to be keeping my link alive all the time, like since 3am
so far (it's nearly 11pm now). I recently increased the timeouts for
everything from 10 to 30 minutes and that seems to be enough to
keep the link up.

I've been trying to install debian 1.3.1 from a CD.
The proccess starts fine but after loading the kernel
the system reboot again.
My system is a Pentium 166 MMX, TX Mather Board, 32MB of
RAM, S3 Virge Video Card, SB 64AWE, 24x CD and 2 hard disks.
