I managed to install StarOffice via its own installation routine, but
not via the Debian installer package.
If I try dpkg-i-ing the installer packages it fails to find the
StarOffice *.tar.gz files. But this files are in the same directory I
started the installation from.

All is fine, except when I telnet to that host and try to use vi, my
telnet client (windowz95) seems to have formating problems (not evident with
the slakware installation)

the status file to a safe place (% cp -a /var/lib/dpkg/status ~/.)

I finally got the public browsing to work with samba des... I still can't
log on to any accounts. Heres what I've tried
normal configuration - security = user, encrypted passwords = yes
connect to \\server\homedir%username
tried using passwords which were all lower or upper case
security = share
This error occurs when a user shell task (from su -c ...) starts in a
directory which it is unable to read.
I traced the cron.daily example to the updatedb script, which runs the
command 'su nobody -c "/usr/bin/updatedb . " '.
