I tried the old XftConfig file, and Writer still has menu fonts.
So, something that I uninstalled, purged, and reinstalled in the True
Type fonts appears to have fixed it.

Sometime over the weekend after an apt-get upgrade, OpenOffice menu fonts
disappeared.
