that if any one of those services is running, my
test fails. Only if all of them are stopped does the test pass.
(I got confused for a minute by cups starting colord, so stopping cups
did not make the test pass until I also stopped colord.)

I identified the services that needed the

Thanks much for the help.

Wow, this seems like a really nice save -- I especially like objective 4.
I changed the names git.rc and .gitrc, as those might reasonably be
taken by the upstream package(s).
Does this solution seem acceptable to everyone?

But I agree totally with you. I'd much rather conflict with GNU
Interactive Tools and have git-the-vcs be compatible with non-debian
universe. That seems like the lesser of two evils. But everyone else
on debian-devel seems to want it the other wa
issue. It is expected that
Pasky will quit distributing his own version of git with cogito soon,
and then I'll need to package Linus' git for Debian.
Make sense?

I guess I just prefer getting flamed by the git/cogito people rather
than the Debian people. :-/

If they dont agree (and they're a cantankerous bunch, hi to all my
friends on the git list) we'll have to come up with something else...

in the queue (0.10+20050515-2).

I've updated the Cogito package to compile against the upstream-included
GPL SHA1 implementation lifted from Mozilla, instead of the (possibly)
GPL-incompatible OpenSSL code. Thanks to Florian Weimer and Anibal
Monsalve Salazar for bringing this issue to my attention. I have a

The upstream now includes docs for the GIT core, though still not for
Cogito. The docs are available in .txt and .html, and they _would_
be available as manpages except for a bug in asciidoc. The asciidoc
maintainer has been offered a patch.
You can grab the new cogito package here:

Get it here:

Before 0.10, the upstream installed both the binaries (actually shell
scripts) and the shell libraries in /usr/bin. Starting with 0.10, the
shell libraries are moved to /usr/lib/cogito. This seems to me like a
fine thing to do, any reason Debian

Hi folks, I'm a wanna-be new maintainer. With the helpful guidance
of Anibal, I've been working on a Debian package of Cogito. Cogito is
Pasky's distributed revision control system on top of Linus Torvalds'
GIT directory tracker.
I know there's an ITP for Cogito (#304602), I've tried to contact

I had the same error when making a pbuilder Sid environment, but Sarge
works for me. Add "--distribution sarge" to that command line.
