There is a small typo in the postinst script of dwww-1.0.
Here is the appropriate fix:

I think a refile should be done, because (at least to my knowledge) the
usage of "[+-]login" as NIS notation is widespread.
Pleas note that this also happens when there are netgroup entries and

Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.1
dpkg-buildpackage fails to build packages with binary data files in the source
tree because dpkg-source bails out when doing the diffs. This prevents the
build of the kbd package.

My bug-report was inaccurate:
It happens when passwd encounters a "+kubla" entry (without colons).
Then it will insert something like:

This package has neither manual nor info pages. It also does install the
copyright file as /usr/doc/ncftp/copyright instead of /usr/doc/copyright/ncftp.
Package: passwd

When encountering NIS overide entries (like "+kubla::") while changing
a local password, the programm will fill the empty fields with the string
"(null)".

And if tar converts non ascii-characters in file names to octal representation.
This happens with the kbd package which has a file with a Unicode-encoded
name for demonstration purposes.
I have already reported this

Try debug a dynamically linked binary using gdb and you will see lots of

at run-time. The reaseon for the redirection through /etc is the support
of read-only media (CD-ROM or NFS-shares).

Could you please check the version 1.2.14-1 if it occurs as well? (I am not
using gpm, so i can not check it.)
Thanks,

No, i mean "sysnews". For two reasons:
a) it is not sysv specific (you will find it on *bsd as well)
b) thats how the package used to be called before i renamed it to "news"

Could you please check that this is still true in the latest release?

Hello Ian,
you might as well add binary-m68k since the first Debian/68k packages are
starting to appear. These packages as well as the necessary source patches
are currently stored at U-Mainz:
ftp.uni-mainz.de:/pub/Linux/devel/debian/dontuse/m68k/
Curently the follwing packages are available
