Just to report that I'm suffering from this bug too. I can replicate the
File->New->Spreadsheet and then click on Sheet 2. I also suffer other
crashes when working with spreadsheets, which I presume are related. For
example, I'm getting intermittent crashes when opening a second spreadsheet.

Hello,
I can confirm this bug. I'm using Lenny in an amd64 machine.
I use the openjdk java implementation ( I don't know if this matters) and have
a nvidia with the nouveau drivers ( I doubt this has something to do with
this bug).
I just started calc with an empty spreadsheet, selected sheet 2
