Ok vtk 5 is not yet in sid so I have tested version 4.4.2-10.
IMHO you can close this bug.
BTW, I do hope vtk5 respects the python policy ;)

in a pbuilder environment.
Perhaps you were trying vtk 4.4.2 and filed
a duplicate of bug #379240? Your bug report
doesn't say, but since 5.0.1 is still new,
I am guessing that you saw the bug on version
4.4.2-10.
