with a new ICQ Version and Alicq, and the developer provided a fix.
However I switched to using Jabber/Tkabber to solve my specific IM need

The package hadn't seen an update since 2004 and the bug you reported
will need an updated version. Is there a reason to keep alicq? Are there
no alternatives that you can find?
Since upstream seems to be abandoned I think that the only recourse
