It took some searching but I found the solution.
If you search for libglib you will find more than one version, the 'other'
version comes from a manually installed program and is no longer needed, just
delete it.
In my case, the installed version is /lib/libglib-2.0.so.0.2400.2 and the

My apologies Phil, I misread your email and put exit 0 at the end of the file,
not the start. When I put it at the start it allows me to progress but I still
end up with gconf2 failing to install. All in all I have about 5 packages
(including hal) that I cannot force to install so I think this f
Thanks for the input Phil but that didn't work for me.
I tried a clean backup recovery and went through the same process to install.
When shared-mime-info failed, I edited shared-mime-info.postinst and added the
exit 0 to the end of the file. I still get the same error and I end up with a
numbe
. This seems to trace back
to shared-mime-info which fails with the error 'undefined symbol:
g_malloc0_n'. I have tried the squeeze version (0.71), the sid version
(0.90) and also compiling from sources (0.90), all fail with the same
error.
