I just successfully downgraded to work around this bug. I hope this info is
useful. Also on Intel gfx.
I was using Jessie with Cinnamon and not much else from Sid all up-to-date as
of the 27th. I added the following to my sources and starting trying to

Copying unicode.pf2 to /boot/grub was enough to get the 00_header script to
insert a section containing load_video into the config on my fresh encrypted
disk install without any other changes. Previously it couldn't find a font and
