FYI, this has been fixed upstream [1], and is scheduled to be released
on the 17th of April with the rest of OpenStack Icehouse. Therefore, it

a few weeks ago I was bitten by this bug as well. I found a way to
work around the described slapd upgrade failure.
In Squeeze 6.0.1 the upgrade scripts worked as expected. Therefor I
