maintainable currently; significant upstream work has to happen with the
OpenAFS libraries to make them use pthreads first.

As somebody gave me the advice, I tried to install network manager :
gnome-shell isn't crashing anymore if network manager is running (stopping
it with /etc/init.d/network-manager stop causes gnome-shell to crash).
I don't know if this can help solve this problem.
