Turns out that svn-workbench was only still running on the unaffected
system because it was still running from a few days ago. Closing and
restarting leads to exactly the same error so raising the severity of

I installed libghc6-mtl-dev in an etch chroot, then used dist-upgrade to
upgrade the whole chroot, and there was no problem upgrading libghc6-mtl-dev.

I could reproduce the bug by setting audio to JACK in winecfg and then
quitting winecfg, restarting it, and then playing the test sound.
