Hi,
Thanks for the update, but this is realistically only an upstream
issue. I am not going to maintain a fop fork just to get rid of some
hypothetic issues while break user code.

About fop... depending on avalon-framework :)
fop builds fine with Java 9, so no more action is needed for the
transition on this side.
