i have the same problem:
on the Mailserver (debian stable, dovecot as debian package):
# ls -ald .2.3
drwx-- 5 dovenull mail 4096 Mar 17 20:09 .2.3
where 3 is a subfolder of 2
locally:
ls -ald 2/.1
drwx-- 5 varac varac 4096 Mar 17 20:09 2/.1
--- .mbsync/Mail ยป mbsync -V -l a...@b.cd
guys, i suggest you have a good look into the manual again before you
say anything more.
the dots in the maildir subfolders are part of the deal and have
*nothing* to do with the server configuration.

seems to just be asserting that the path separator should be in the

listed like:
linux/alsa/devel <=> sirena/linux/alsa/devel
(left is server, right is local Maildirs) as I expect but when I look at
the Maildirs I see that the local folder is
