I'm sorry to say this, but you misundersand the situation. Yes, waiting for
dhclient is intentional. No, this isn't a bug. Dhclient backgrounding
automatically isn't intended behaviour, but currently there's no better
way. No, your patch doesn't solve anything, but introduces breakage.

That is really interesting, there was a similar fix in the networking script in
Ubuntu 10.10 that was discussed on the Ubuntu forums, but this must be why it
has never been implemented. The modified networking script does work on my
system, but it is a simple home laptop (Dell C840) installation
