I've just seen this problem after upgrading from an AMD Athlon 64 to an AMD FX
8350. I've been using gnome-shell since it entered Debian and I hadn't seen
this problem in the monocore processor but it has happened after a few hours

I can confirm this bug with both stock kernel in wheezy and 3.7 trunk.
Gnome-shell seemingly randomly locks up (many hours apart).
Mouse, keys responsive but screen doesn't refresh. I can change terminal ie

I don't know if this information can help but I'm using a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21E
with Wheezy and the propietary drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT graphic
card.

I have exactly the same issue with gnome-shell on my computer and on my
laptop. The screen freeze and the mouse can move and the keyboard appear
to be responsive (can switch to tty1). But the screen is not refreshed.
If I was watching a movie, I can hear the sound during freeze.
