Are you trying to zoom out with Ctrl+Z? Please, try more exact steps:
1. open xfig
2. select rectangular box drawing with rounded corners and draw large
box
3. Zoom in: Ctrl+l

I can't reproduce this problem. When you are creating an object, if you try to
zoom
xfig tells you to finish or cancel the current operation first so it doesn't
attempt to zoom.
By the way, you might want to get xfig 3.2.5c from xfig.org because it looks
like you have 3.2.5b.

Steps to reproduce:
Create some object, zoom in so that object does not fit
the screen, start another object creation but do not finish it and press
Ctrl+Z.
