This problem is solved in version 0.9.6.2-1 that will be uploaded in the
following days. You might although have to change the preferences in the
following way:
"View"->"Preferences"
"File Locations"
"Python Configuration Files" = /usr/share/qtiplot/
This has to be changed with the browsin

Your report doesn't really mean python support is broken, but simply
that the compiled version of the initialization file qtiplotrc.py could
not be saved in /etc/qtiplotrc.pyc. This seems normal if you were not
running Qtiplot with admin priviledges. If you sudo qtiplot, this error
