Felix,

Your report doesn't really mean python support is broken, but simply that the compiled version of the initialization file qtiplotrc.py could not be saved in /etc/qtiplotrc.pyc. This seems normal if you were not running Qtiplot with admin priviledges. If you sudo qtiplot, this error goes away and the compiled file is created.

However, this does not mean that python scripting is working flawlessly. I tried the "set column value" feature: If you want to use for instance a 'col("1")' column designator, you get a script error:

AttributeError: cell
at <Table1_2>:0
at <string>:2 in col

which seems to point to a problem with SIP and/or PyQt, as far as I understand.

OK, I must confess I tested this in Ubuntu Hardy beta, which may have subtle package differences with Debian. So it maybe worth to confirm this is a real problem on Debian.

I tried compiling the package, but its is just too complicated: I could not get to the point were the recommended versions of the dependencies for python support compiled with no errors. I gave up.

Gudjon, did you pay special attention to python support while building? Thanks for your effort anyway,

Phil.
