the same 2.6.23 custom kernel and the same xorg.conf... I'm pretty sure
this is an issue with the fglrx precompiled module. I guess you should

This is after your advice to disable DRM, but same results from having
it in as a module.
I'm happy to stay with 8.44.3 until 8.47.3 comes out, since it's working.

Tried recompiling 8.45.5-1 (note more recent version) with the 2.6.23
kernel, with DRM completely off. Problem was still present (exactly the
same as described above).

What is your kernel config about DRI ? I used to have such behaviour
with CONFIG_DRM=y.
You should check in your .config that you have at least CONFIG_DRM=m. If
it's already the case, maybe you should try to completly disable it...
