tell you that I tested with other locales and it did failed.

Unfortunately I can't see where the problem may lie.
I have built an rsync package with a not-stripped rsync binary, which
should help gdb show a proper backtrace. I'll send you the link to it
separately; please try that version. A fix for empty filename is in

I am not sure if it is my libc6 from unstable, but rsync segfaults in a
simple local usage.
I have an USB HDD mounted at /mnt and try (from inside /mnt):
