I tried to reproduce your problem and I did not get any problem,
either using the -via switch or normally. I can not see any
problem with this...
Both these works, and it is put into the tty.
xvnc4viewer -via localhost garnet:1

The new default of asking password from the terminal does not work. I
don't care whether to input the password from tty or GUI box but
currently only the GUI box works, so --PasswordDialog=1 is mandatory.
