Actually, although I forgot to mention it at the time, my particular problem
has been resolved too. If I remember rightly it was something to do with a
problem with slapd not resolv

this time after a complete purge and reinstall. I started having the problem
after upgrading last time to the latest postgres 8.1.4-2 package (amd64) and I
