Which modules does your touchpad need? Why are they not being loaded by
udev? Which kernel are you using?

Not just that. A simple laptop correctly working will stop loading X
since the touchpad can't be found anymore.

Hotplug is also necessary for loading external firmware and can not be replaced
by udev.
