I misunderstood the problem. There was a more serious misconfiguration relating to GNOME and automount on the client side causing it to repeatedly and frequently *mount* /pub/.hidden. A warning for a failed mount attempt (rather than a failed file access) seems reasonable. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE,
