Package: nfs-kernel-server Version: 1:1.0.6-3.1 Severity: normal
It seems that a failed stat() call on an NFS mounted directory causes the following error message to be sent to syslog with facility user and priority warning (example file is /pub/.hidden): rpc.mountd: can't stat exported dir /pub/.hidden: No such file or directory This seems like quite a ridiculous log level for such an apparently uninteresting event. One PC running Ubuntu Hoary with GNOME Desktop had my NFS exported /pub directory mounted over night. It was polling this file every few seconds, possibly related to Nautilus or the new Places menu. This caused my server's root partition to fill up with over 500 MB of logs. A more sensible log level would have prevented this. I would propose debug. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.7eagle-20040916 Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages nfs-kernel-server depends on: ii debconf 1.4.30.11 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libwrap0 7.6.dbs-8 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii nfs-common 1:1.0.6-3.1 NFS support files common to client ii sysvinit 2.86.ds1-1 System-V like init -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
