I tested an upgrade locally, but it gets convoluted with the Bioconductor
t
ts it belongs to BioC 3.21 and intentionally adds a virtual
dependency that prevents the package from co-existing with BioC 3.20 packages.
It's easy to workaround with a patch, but in that case patching the current
version in Debian is as easy and more conservative.

I agree that we can remove EMBOSS in all 32-bit platforms. I think that
a large fraction of the scientific field has no appetite to do any extra
volunteer work to such as accepting our patches to support scientific
computations on 32-bit systems in 15 years...
