On further investigation, I see that the problem is caused by "galculator".
The whole chain of dependencies is following:
lxde -> galculator -> libpango1.0-0 -> libthai0
Would it not be easier, if lxde depended only on packages, which are really
needed for functionality? Why can't I use lxde with
Severity: high
Package: lxde
Version: 4+nmu1
Problem: even when installed with --no-install-recommends option, lxde
package depends (directly or indirectly) on:
libthai-data
libthai0
Summary: How can lxde depend on Thai language is beyond my comprehension.
Solution: Please remove this depend
can somebody please fix this bug?

from the various contributions, it is not clear (to me) whether or not
