tried this three times, system hangs,
top did not show anything...
never actually got new profile created due to hang.

over a number of tests in the last day or two, it seems at least likely that
the hang is related to SMTP send password dialogue.
as mentioned I changed the password, in order to access via webmail.
now when I start icedove as soon as the SMTP password dialogue appears,
system hangs

crashed wheezy as soon as application opened.

may not be connected, but:
whenever starting icedove wheezy crashes,
after say 30 seconds,
mouse moves but nothing else.
desktop clock has stopped.
17.0.10 on wheezy up to date.
will try to find time to follow instructions here.
any other thoughts?
