Looking at your bug #454555, I've a couple of comments.
Policy is to build packages linked with X libraries (see below) - but
is isn't clear to me why it is maxima that depends on the various X
lib

not only does the text not display, but subsequent pictures don't
either.
What seems to happen is that the figure is passed directly to
