In Debian, r-cran-bigmemory fails on arm64 and a lot of other
architectures.
In my understanding, char is signed on macos-arm64 and linux amd64
(x86_64) and
unsigned on linux arm64. This patch passes -fsigned-char to the compiler.

Hi again,
I tested an upgrade locally, but it gets convoluted with the Bioconductor
t
ts it belongs to BioC 3.21 and intentionally adds a virtual
dependency that prevents the package from co-existing with BioC 3.20 packages.
It's easy to workaround with a patch, but in that case patching the current
version in Debian is as easy and more conservative.
