I just wanted to add that using gamin rather than fam didn't help.
Also, dragging a file from a Thunar window to the Xfce Desktop
copies the file just fine every time.

I upgraded my xserver-xorg-video-ati driver to experimental but the problem

By using libxine1 from experimental (1.1.4-2), none of the tools based
on xine (totem, [g]xine) can play any data.
