While this bug is not fixed I came across it while doing a crosscompile of a
pi3 kernel, aplying Kevin's patch (thanks a lot) almost fixed compiling, but
I found another place whre it got stuck, so here is an addon for the patch
that Kevin had sent:

dpkg-architecture usage is also responsible for this debian dkms bug [2].

idesk fails to cross build from source, because it uses the build
architecture pkg-config. The cause is using AC_PATH_PROG for finding
pkg-config. It is much better to simply use PKG_CHECK_MODULES.
