This still seems like a much larger headache than it's worth. As for point #2,
gzip can do a lot to compress data, especially white space. It does have some
nice features, but it seems like a large headache that I don't see going away.

This is also a bug that ppc64el hit. You can easily fix it following the
follow instructions:

It seems the reason it failed to connect to localhost was that the loopback
interface was disabled by default in Debian 7 armHF for UDOO. So this is
not a mongodb bug after all.
